ORANGE PARK - Pensacola
Rutherford High standout cross country grad Michael Remich and Orange Park veteran road racer Belissa Del Valle won the top spots at the annual Florida Striders Run to the Sun 5k (3.1 miles) road race held Saturday and staged at the Best Buy Dog Track in Orange Park.
Remich, 25, a standout at the University of West Florida, now from Jacksonville, won by more than a minute with a 15 minute, 55 seconds split that was ahead of 18 year old Troy Winkler, second in 16:53. Justin Holstein, 38, was third at 17:58.
Del Valle, 35, who has been one of the top area runners from Orange Park with the range of a 3:34.04
Boston Marathon time and a 2:23 800 meter track time, won the female title with a 20:27 split that comes from a 6:34 per mile average.
Second female was ultra-distance standout Monica Bolanos-Bourdreau, 52 and originally from Colombia, now in Jacksonville, in 21:07, just a hair behind Del Valle. Bolanos-Boudreau, in 2018, finished 13th at the HellCat 50K Endurance Run in Green Cove Springs.
Third female was Jacksonville’s Liv Ade, 25, in 21:38.
There were 423 finishers in the event staged by 1st Place Sports of Jacksonville.
Upcoming is the Sat., May 6 Clay County Young Life “Hula Hustle” 5K and one mile run also at the bestbet.
