MIDDLEBURG - It took Middleburg High just three plays to get to the end zone in a passing scrimmage with Tocoi Creek with Broncos quarterback Carson Stewart hitting Jordan Williams in the end zone in a 10-play series that saw the Broncos score twice from a 40-yard line start.
Bronco wide receiver Deshun Green also snared a score with a post pattern that Green found green space and sprinted to the end zone. Jordan Avellino scored off a long pass that was a solid rebound from Stewart who was nearly intercepted on the previous play as Middleburg scored three quick touchdowns in just two series of 10 plays.
Green, Williams and Jordan Avellino proved effective in finding open space on the athletic secondary of Tocoi Creek. Stewart tried to thread a hook pattern to Green that was nearly picked off with a slant attempt to Green snagged by a closing safety.
Swing passes to Mason Zwilling got Avellino open for solid gains with Williams finishing the job on a quick slant inside the 10.
On defense, Middleburg defensive back Joel Lowe had a great position on a post pattern but only wrestled the ball away from the Tocoi wideout. Defensive back Floyd Reed did wrestle away and capture an end zone pass attempt to stop a Tocoi touchdown attempt.
Tocoi Creek did get behind the Bronco secondary of Jaden Boyd, Wein Sulph and Joel Lowe for a scoring pass.
In the latter part of the scrimmage, Tocoi started to find opens in the middle of the Bronco secondary and scored off a long pass to the five and an end zone jump ball, plus had two open receivers in the end zone who dropped passes.
