Montee Cregg Jenkins, 86, went to
her heavenly home on April 1, 2024, following an unexpected health event.
Montee was born to the late
Joseph C. Cregg and Ruth M. Cregg of Jacksonville, FL on January 17, 1938, the
third of four children. Her husband, Edwin H.
Jenkins, and a brother, Joseph “Sonny” Cregg, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Ed
Jenkins (Katherine); grandchildren, K. Rebecca Jenkins, and Philip A. Jenkins
(Karli); two great-grandsons, Elijah K. and Jonah M. Jenkins; her sister, Anna
Weaver; and brother, David Cregg (Sammie).
Horses were a passion of
Montee’s from a very early age. She was a member of the Jacksonville Trail
Riders Association where she participated in 100-mile trail rides. She also
participated in barrel racing and then transitioned to hunter jumper competition during
which time she started her own riding school where she taught many Jacksonville
children. Over the years, of owning several horses, her riding interests turned
to dressage where she really enjoyed the discipline of horse and rider in the
art of dressage.
Montee was enthusiastic about
her family genealogy. She made many trips to South Carolina to trace her family
history and many hours spent on genealogical websites. Her history led her to
become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sofia Fleming
Island Chapter of Orange Park, FL and the United Daughters of the Confederacy,
Ancient City Chapter of St Augustine, FL.
More recently Montee could be
found gardening and feeding her birds both of which brought her immense pleasure.
Montee was a member of Grace
Anglican Church where services will be held Monday, April 15, 2024, at
11 am. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park at 1 pm.
Arrangements are under the care
