Posted

Arthur M. Schueler, Jr., was born and raised in the greater Detroit, Michigan area and lived in Orange Park, FL for fifty years.

Arthur was well-known in his hometown for his exceptional athletic abilities, particularly in football, where he set numerous records for touchdowns and rushing yards at Birmingham High School. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in zoology before earning his Doctor of Osteopathy in 1970.

Dr. Schueler served as a medical officer with the 2nd Armored Division (“Hell on Wheels”) at Fort Hood, Texas, during the Vietnam conflict, achieving the rank of Captain.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Dr. Schueler faced a crucial decision; pursue further training to become a general surgeon or start a practice as a family physician. Dr. Schueler chose Family Practice to have a more direct impact face-to-face for all his patients. In 1974, he moved to Orange Park, FL where he established his medical practice and became a cornerstone of the community.

Dr. Schueler never left Clay County except for vacations. He was one of the first physicians in Clay County before there was a true hospital serving the region. He became one of the first attending physicians at Orange Park Medical Center and was on the Board of Directors there his entire career. He performed house calls, did nursing home visits, and was on call every day and every hour of the week. He became one of the most respected physicians, and is especially known for being one of the kindest ever known. The one thing he loved most in this world was his patients. He practiced until the end of his life.

Dr. Schueler had a deep love for fishing, boating and spending time on Doctor’s Lake. He enjoyed gardening and often shared his home-grown vegetables with his patients. A die-hard fan of the University of Michigan Wolverines, he also cheered for anyone playing against Notre Dame and was a staunch supporter of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Dr. Schueler passed away peacefully at home on July 9, 2024, with his loving wife of 54 years, Diane, by his side. He was preceded in death by his sons, Tim Schueler and Jeff Schueler. He is survived by his wife Diane, sons, Arthur M. Schueler III, D.O., his daughter-in-law Alicia Schueler and Craig Williams, his grandchildren John and Ava Schueler, Alex, Christian and Stephanie Arroyave, and many loving friends and adopted family members.

Dr. Schueler’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will be cherished by all who knew him.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church at 1649 Kingsley Ave, Orange Park. In lieu of refreshments and flowers, please bring a donation for Clay County Fire Station 17.
