KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – Three men were arrested Monday night after a group climbed an active cellphone tower and attempted to BASE jump with parachutes near County Road 315C and Spring Lake Road near Mike Roess Gold Head Branch Park.
David Wayne Lapole, 48, Christopher Craig Debler, 36, and Peter Andrew Bany, 43, all of Keystone Heights, were charged on Aug. 26, with trespassing on critical infrastructure property. Others were suspected of attempting to climb the tower and jumping, but they eluded deputies.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said Bany jumped and parachuted safely to the ground while Lapole and Debler climbed down. Two other men ran from the scene and escaped into the heavily wooded area.
Bond for all three was set at $2,503 each.
