MIDDLEBURG – Clay County Schools District Police Chief Kenneth Wagner stopped a man who was suspected of being involved in a crash until a Clay County Sheriff’s Officer arrived.

Larry Owen Brown, 4, of Middleburg, was charged with DUI, two counts of DUI with property damage, failure to stop after an accident involving property damage and failure to leave information at an unintended vehicle after Wagner, who was off duty, stopped a car at the intersection of County Road 218 and Mockingbird Drive on Nov. 14. Wagner told deputies he stopped the car because it had extensive front end damage. When CCSO arrived, they found Brown leaning against his pick-up truck. At the same time, deputies were investigating a crash at CR 218 and Thunder Road. A man said a car rear-ended him and sped away. The man provided CCSO with a description of the car and the license tag number.

According to the arrest report, Brown hit another car on Green Road and that car caromed into a parked car. Once detained, CCSO said Brown refused to submit to a field sobriety test and a breath test.
