Like everyone else, the ongoing pandemic has weighed heavily on employers. In addition to operating a business in this economy, employers are currently dealing with a threat that’s been hanging over our heads for years, only to be exacerbated by COVID-19. And that is the constant threat of lawsuits.
Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of instances in which a lawsuit against an employer is warranted and necessary. Unfortunately, respectable and reasonable lawsuits seem to be in the minority when it comes to what employers today are facing.
These days, an employer can get sued over virtually anything. It doesn’t matter how hardworking you are, how well you treat your employees, how many safety protocols you put into place. If a trial lawyer finds a loophole or a technicality in one of Florida’s broken laws, they bring suit. For greedy guys like this, the pandemic was just another tool under their belts that they can use to bring suit and shake down businesses.
Hardworking, honest Florida employers do not deserve to be targeted by these exploitative lawsuits, and we deserve protections put in place to get this problem under control.
