Jesus memorably asked His disciples, “Who do you say I am?” The story is found in Luke 9:18-20:

“Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say I am?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”

Many knew He was a great teacher and even prophet. But Peter received a revelation. Peter knew that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Is it possible we sometimes miss what God is doing in our lives because we don’t really understand who Jesus is? Our understanding of Jesus’ identity is crucial to how we understand our faith.

We must embrace the fullness of Jesus’ true nature to continue our path of spiritual growth that leads to maturity. Not fully recognizing who Jesus truly is limits us in our faith.

Jesus is God Himself in the flesh. He is the Son, the second person of the Holy Trinity. Colossians 2:9 says, “In Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.” It doesn’t get much clearer than that.

So, we should all ask ourselves this question: Who do you say Jesus is? Is He faithful? Is He kind? Is He able? Do you really believe He can and will do the things that He has promised you through God’s Word?

Search your heart, and more importantly, search the Scriptures, and ask that God would reveal to you who Jesus truly is. The answer to this question will come to define your life and faith.

Once you embrace the whole picture, the magnitude and majesty of Jesus, He will be able to change your life from the inside out. He will work in and through you in ways you could never imagine.
