Faith Walk: How Can I Be Closer to God?

Anyone who believes in God would naturally desire to be closer to Him. We should all long to be closer to God. He is both the architect and source of life. In Him, we find everything we need to walk in the fullness of the potential in which we were created. We were made in His image from an overflow of His love. In His arms, we are home.

The closer we are to God the more we are changed. His presence reshapes our hearts and minds. Just look at these biblical examples. When Paul got closer to Jesus, he went from being a tyrant to a missionary church planter who wrote a large portion of the New Testament! Moses got closer to God and went from a son in the house of Pharoah to the person God chose to lead Israel out of slavery in Egypt.

Then, there was the Prodigal Son. After blowing his inheritance on a sinful lifestyle he hits bottom. Finally, he wakes up.

Luke 15:18-19 says, “I will go home to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired servant.”

We also do this with our Father God. But God’s desire to be close to us never waivers.

Luke 15:20 says, “So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.”

When we finally surrender and come to God, He meets us. Not only that, but He also celebrates us.

Luke 15:22-24 says, “But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.”

No matter where you are, closer than ever, or needing to return home, God is ready to bring change to your life. He is waiting with open arms and beckoning you to come into the fullness of the potential He has placed within you. It all happens when we draw close to God.
