ORANGE PARK – A man was arrested after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said he carried out a threat to set a house on fire with children inside.

Rudolph Cabal, 31, of Orange Park, was charged with arson, aggravated domestic battery with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief and making threats to kill or do bodily harm after deputies were called to a home on Debarry Avenue on Sept. 6.

When deputies arrived, the garage was on fire and Cabal was holding a baseball bat and threatening to hit another man.

CCSO was able to break up the fight and arrest Cabal. Deputies found burned marks in the garage. According to the arrest report, there also were children inside the house.

When confronted about threatening text messages to set the house on fire and harm the children, Cabal said he couldn’t have sent the messages because he has tattoos on his arms. However, the photos on a cellphone only showed images of a hand, and Cabal didn’t have tattoos on his hands.

Cabal’s next court appearance will be on Oct. 3. Until then, he will remain in the Clay County Jail with a $305,011 bond.
