Broncos show off some vertical offense

MIDDLEBURG - Middleburg High football coach Ryan Wolfe let off a little steam of disappointment after running nearly half his team in running sets for missing practices this week prior to the Broncos intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday.

Despite the lessened squad, the Broncos showed off some vertical offense with quarterback Jaydan Jenkins finding 30-plus yard pass plays to wide out Joe Forte and some tough inside running from Terrance Thomas.

All State running back Mike Mitchell was not in pads only as a precaution to the upcoming season as was linebacker Austin Cruce.

“Just precaution,” said Wolfe. “Don’t need them dinged before the season.”

On the field, Wolfe got to see Thomas blast away behind the Twin Towers of his offensive line, junior tackles Micah George and Jaylen Booker, both 6-2, 310-plus Godzillas that, combined with Dakota Gober, Khoda Moses and Landen Padgett were comfortable backing the Middleburg line although noseguard Josiah Pierre was a menace in the backfield all day.

Middleburg’s secondary of Aiden Postemski and Kristian Russell had some nice open field tackles and pass breakups with Russell sniffing out a reverse and punching in a tackle for loss on the play.
