ORANGE PARK – When one family auto care business closed recently, another replaced it.
After All-Starz Tire and Automotive, a family-operated shop that catered to off-road vehicle tires at 238 Blanding Blvd. since 2011, closed in April, the property was quickly purchased and reopened by Big Chief Tire, which hosted its grand opening on Friday, May 19.
O’Reilly Auto Parts, the vendor for the event, cooked hamburgers and hot dogs for patrons, while 1010 XL and 92.5 FM sports radio show host and Jacksonville Jaguars play-by-play announcer Frank Frangie hosted his daily drive show from the shop.
“We are really excited to be in the Orange Park area. We have been looking to expand to Clay County for a while. It’s a great community with great people that we are really excited to serve and help,” said Reed Parman, president and co-owner.
With its new Orange Park location, the Jacksonville-based auto repair brand has expanded its operation to five locations.
Like its predecessor, Parman said Clay County drivers could count on Big Chief for excellent service and fair prices.
“So obviously, (Blanding Blvd.) is the main street through the heart of Clay County, and that’s a lot of visibility. There are specifically a lot of corporate chains on this road, and we are really excited to be a small business among those chains. We want to serve the customer a little better than the chains do. We feel like we can do better service,” he said.
While All-Starz catered to off-road customers during its 12-year run at the location, Big Chief caters to general automobiles, Parman said.
The company offers general maintenance, brake repair, axle, CV joint and driveshaft repair, wheel alignment and service, tire services and more.
The store’s team required plenty of hard work to finish the remodeling.
One distinct advantage of Big Chief’s newest location is accessibility.
“It’s easy to access, which is a huge benefit for the property because it’s a quick in and out on Blanding Blvd. That can be a struggle at some properties (on the road),” he said.
