JACKSONVILLE – Five Northeast Florida high school graduates, including Middleburg’s Sara Morales, will have part of their college expenses covered, thanks to generous donors who set up scholarship funds at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida.
Morales is eligible to earn as much as $18,000 during the next four years toward her education at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Miranda Barnes and Richard William McCoy will each receive $5,000 during the next four years toward tuition, books, fees, room and board and degree-related expenses, thanks to the Byon M. Morris Scholarship. The Byon M. Morris Scholarship is awarded annually to two seniors who have attained Scouting’s highest rank.
Barnes, a graduate of P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School and a Gold Award winner, will attend Flagler College in St. Augustine.
McCoy, a graduate of Stanton College Preparatory High School and an Eagle Scout, will attend the University of Florida.
George Hawkins III will receive $6,000 during the next four years toward tuition, books, fees, room and board and degree-related expenses for his selection for the Dorothea B. Shaw Scholarship. The Dorothea B. Shaw scholarship is awarded annually to a Duval county public or private school who is slated to attend an accredited post-secondary institution in the Northeastern United States. Hawkins, a graduate of Trinity Christian Academy, will attend Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.
Quine Mincey and Morales will each receive up to $18,000 over four years as recipients of the Sam and Lydia Payne Scholarship. The Sam and Lydia Payne Scholarship is awarded annually to two students graduating from a North Florida public or private school who demonstrate an aptitude and desire to succeed.
Mincey graduated from Raines High School and will be attending Florida A&M
University in Tallahassee.
