OAKLEAF – A 17-year-old Oakleaf High junior was arrested on Sept. 23 and charged with sending a threatening text message to another student that he intended to bring a handgun to school the next day and shoot other classmates.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Jayden Mykah Allen was charged with written or electronic threats to kill, do bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism, a second-degree felony.

Allen admitted to sending the threatening texts, but he told deputies he didn’t mean it, Sheriff Michelle Cook said. He said he angrily sent them over an ongoing dispute with four other bandmates.

The sheriff’s office searched his room at his home and his cellphone because he identified the specific weapon and had a motive. The agency also interviewed all parties and family members.

"Let me reiterate that we take these threats very seriously," Cook said in a joint announcement with Superintendent David Broskie. "Every tip that comes in is thoroughly investigated, and we will have a zero tolerance for threats to harm or disrupt the school function."

Because he is a juvenile, he was taken to the Duval Juvenile Detention Center in Jacksonville.
