Historic greyhound track and 70th anniversary race commemorates founderORANGE PARK – A two-and-a-half year old male greyhound upset the field during the recent 2016 James J. Patton Silver Cup and was able to come out top dog at bestbet Orange Park.

Greyhound Ln Houdini won The $50,000 Stakes Race, which ran on March 12 and commemorated the Orange Park Kennel Club’s 70th anniversary.

The March race surprised backers of the champion Ln Houdini as the competing underdog that paid a significant $85.40 to win, going off as the long shot. Ln Houdini runs for the Double J Kennel and kennel owner Jim Blanchard which as operations throughout Florida and trainer Chris Maynard of Jacksonville.

This is their first stakes win at bestbet. The Greyhound is owned by Kenneth Lane of Spragueville, Iowa. The annual racing event is named after James J. Patton, founder and president of the original Orange Park Kennel Club at 455 Park Ave.

“Sometimes the magic tricks work and sometimes they don’t, and that’s probably the best way to describe Ln Houdini’s run through the rounds this year at bestbet,” said Kelly Clark, bestbet Jacksonville’s director of simulcasting and racing standards. “When he is on, he is on, but when he is off, he is off. This race was enough for him to turn on the speed and land the top spot in the race finals.”

Clarks said Ln Houdini is now proven to have the raw power to compete with the big names of greyhound racing.

“We are all very proud of this Greyhound along with the ownership and training team. They have produced a competitor with an outstanding performance in Orange Park,” said Clark.

Clark said he expects more wins ahead for Ln Houdini with plenty of time and numerous stakes races ahead of him in the future.

“We wish this Greyhound the best of luck. Racing enthusiasts will get used to hearing his name, and I expect he’ll be winning several more efforts around our racetrack. We all witnessed a champion who made the most of his opportunities and gave a great determined effort in scoring his first stakes victory at the Silver Cup,” said Clark.
