Inez Corley Latham, age 93, ascended into Heaven on September 12, 2024. Inez, a seventh generation Georgian, was born to Shellie Eugene and Lula Tucker Corley in Damascus, Early County, Georgia.
From an early age, Inez helped with tending the family farm, and she had wonderful stories about farm life in the 1930’s and 40’s, and marveled at how different it was from modern life. In 1947 Inez moved with her mother to Brunswick, Georgia to be near brother Thomas “Bud” Corley and his family. It was there that Inez met her husband of 54 years, Joe, and they married in 1948. Shortly after starting their family, they also started a grocery business that employed many family members over the next 27 years. Inez retired with Joe in 1979 when they sold the business to move on to the next chapter in their lives. During retirement Inez enjoyed traveling and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At first, the traveling involved exploring throughout the continental US with her husband Joe. After his death, her travel adventures continued and led her to Alaska and Hawaii as well as Canada, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Columbia and Scotland. By then, Inez had moved to Fleming Island, Florida to be near her daughter and family. Inez was an avid fan of Atlanta Braves baseball and UGA football. She enjoyed a friendly rivalry with her Florida neighbors whenever the University of Georgia Bulldogs competed with the University of Florida Gators, but she always supported the University of Florida in other collegiate contests.
Inez was known for her faith in Jesus Christ and was a dedicated member of Pinewood Presbyterian Church in Middleburg, FL. She always found great joy in her family and was incredibly proud of all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was thoughtful, kind, and considerate to others. Although she never completed her own formal education, she passionately stressed the virtues of common sense along with the contribution of a good education, whether technical or scholastic, for gaining the skills to succeed in life. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters (Clifford Eugene and Alma Kate), two brothers (Thomas “Bud” and Shellie Elmo), and her husband, Joe. She leaves a son and his wife, Michael (Linda) Latham, daughter and her husband, Sharon (Starling) Kramer, three grandchildren Clayton (Laura) Kramer, Alanna (Andy) Orr and Chris (Heather) Kramer, eight great-grandchildren Emma, Caroline, Jacob, Ellie, Caleb, Leah, Isaac and Norah, and many nieces and nephews as well as her canine companion Sasha.
Inez’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff of PruittHealth – Fleming Island who cared for Inez with compassion and took her into their hearts.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 20, 2024 from 11 am until 12 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with graveside funeral services following at 12:15 pm in Palmetto Cemetery.
