GREEN COVE SPRINGS — The City is pleased to announce the completion of phase one of the redevelopment of Walnut Street. Both sides of the newly refurbished street are now open to traffic, enhancing safety and accessibility to the community.

The construction project began in February and involved significant upgrades, including roadway reconstruction, new sidewalks, improved drainage systems, new landscaping, and updated street lighting. These improvements are part of the City's ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure to serve residents and visitors better.

Assistant City Manager Mike Null expressed enthusiasm about the project's completion, saying, “The transformation of historic Walnut Street marks a pivotal moment for Green Cove Springs. These enhancements will improve pedestrian walkability and significantly boost the safety and visual appeal of our downtown area, making it a more inviting space for everyone.”

The public is invited to the street's official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 21, at noon near the corner of Walnut and Orange Avenue (U.S. Highway 17) to support local businesses and enjoy a festive day in partnership with the Green Cove Springs Business League and the Third Saturday Market in the Park. Expect delicious food from various food trucks, unique vendors and fun activities for all ages.
