Faith Walk: How Can We Hear God’s Voice?

Posted

As followers of Jesus, we know that God desires to communicate with us. We have read about Him speaking to countless believers in the past throughout the Bible, and we firmly believe that He’s still speaking today. In John 8:47, Jesus says, “Whoever belongs to God hears what God says” (NIV). Through His words to us, God gives us powerful revelations that fuel our personal growth.

But HOW do we hear God’s voice?

Be Humble and Make Quiet Time in Prayer
Colossians 4:2 says, “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Prayer is a beautiful blessing. It’s how we talk to God! But we often make the mistake of doing a lot of talking and not a lot of listening when we pray. Share with God your joys, sorrows, hopes, and prayers for others, but also step back and take time to listen. Communication is a two-way street, and if we don’t approach prayer that way, we’ll never hear God’s response.

Saturate Your Life in God’s Word
A daily Bible-reading plan is irreplaceable in the life of a Christ-Follower. That’s because God speaks to us through His Word! The Psalmist said, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” The Bible is unlike any other book in existence. It not only speaks the words written upon its pages, but through it, God speaks into the hearts of each and every believer. It is relevant and true to anyone who reads it today! Make sure that reading the scripture is coupled with your daily prayer routine.

Always Seek God’s Presence
Look for God in every situation in life. No matter where you are or what you’re doing, God is there. Embrace His presence and commit to seeking Him in every aspect of your life. By doing so, you will better attune to His Holy Spirit inside of you. You will start to recognize Him by your side in every moment. He will speak to you throughout every circumstance you face. I Chronicles 16:11 says; “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!”
God wants to speak to you today! Take the steps to embrace His presence, talk to Him, and hear what He has to say.
