• Former Clay County Commissioner and 39-year educator Larry Lancaster dies at age 70.

• The Clay County Chamber of Commerce releases its Quality of Life Progress Report which shows 51% of county residents are very satisfied and 42% said they are somewhat satisfied with the quality of life here.

• The Green Cove Springs City Council agrees to pay $1.6 million to replace its Public Works Facilty after mold created by Hurricane Irma is found behind wall panels.

• Superintendent Charlie Van Zant hires an attorney to sue the School Board after Van Zant claims the board had no authority to put job discriptions for district staff in writing.
• Incumbent Felecia Hampshire defeated Alan N. Stevenson to maintain her seat on the Green Cove Springs City Council.
• The board of county commissioners severe its ties with the Keystone Heights Volunteer Fire Department.

20 years ago, 2003
• Sheriff’s deputies were on the lookout for a suspect wanted for stealing the cash box and shooting an employee three times in the chest at the Roadhouse lounge on Blanding Boulevard.
• Clay County Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary Officer Matthew Brown spots a man wanted for a deadly hit and run on the Governors Creek Bridge in Green Cove Springs, which leads to the arrest of Michael Mircale.
• Officials with Clay County District Schools introduce Mike Wingate as the new principal at Orange Park High.

30 years ago, 1993
• Parents and students tell the School Board it’s inappropriate to mix seventh-through-12th grade students at Clay High after several students were suspended for sexual misconduct.
• Keystone Heights City Council again votes against participating in the countywide solid waste disposal assessment.
• An Orange Park man fires two shots into the ground to stop two men from stealing his grill while he was watching a ballgame at Tanglewood Neighbor’s Park.

40 years ago, 1983
• Members of the Clay County Board of Realtors donate their time to refurbish a home for a 75-year-old woman.
• Green Cove Springs Mayor George Killian said he will tell the Chamber of Commerce and County Development Authority what he uncovered relating to Chessco Industry’s denial to allow the company to hook into the city’s sewage treatment plant.
• Annie Lee Wilber surpasses the 7,000-hour volunteer mark at Clay Memorial Hospital in Green Cove Springs.
