The heat is putting a damper on my fall plans

Posted

“Florida’s ‘cold’ is just a gentle reminder that the sun is still out — and that’s enough.” - Unknown

It's official. The summer season has ended, and the brisk air and light breezes should be arriving shortly. At least, I hope.

Fall began on Tuesday, Sept. 22. And although the pumpkins are arriving and the spiced lattes are warming up, it still just doesn’t feel like it to me.

Not yet at least.

Besides winter, fall has always been one of my favorite times of the year. Growing up, I can remember the pumpkin patches and carving lessons. There was never a dull moment last-minute shopping for Halloween costumes and the anticipation for that Thanksgiving meal was palpable.

And how can I forget. The colors were bold and earthy and the fashion choices were endless. I still feel that way.

But the highlight was always transitioning to a cool breeze and crisp air. For me, that was everything that made the season what it was.

And it’s safe to say that I’m tired of the heat.

Contrary to popular opinion, I actually like cold weather. And as a native Floridian, I think it’s only right that we get a few months to bask in some chilly forecasts and cozy traditions.

I want to be able to drink a warm beverage, and it make sense.

I want to indulge in some new trends and change up my style. But I want to do those things without sweating or feeling like I'm going to pass out.

And it's a shame that I can't wear a good portion of my closet because it's still too hot. I’m ready for sweater weather and the sun is putting a damper on plans.

With a closet full of sweaters, boots and cardigans, it’s time to pull them to the front. And just maybe that will happen soon.
