More of my unpopular opinions: Thanksgiving Edition

Posted

"Thanksgiving—when the people who are the most thankful are the ones who didn't have to cook." —Melanie White

It's officially everyone's favorite time of the year. The weather is cooling down (just a bit), you can start prepping for your favorite extended guests and get ready to eat until your heart's content.

Even though Thanksgiving is top my list for holiday seasons (after Christmas, of course), there's no doubt I still have some unpopular opinions about Turkey Day.  And I'll give you a hint: one of them has to do with the star of the show itself.

Here are four more of my "controversial" unpopular opinions: Thanksgiving Edition. Hopefully you'll take them into consideration on Nov. 26.

1. Thanksgiving food is better the day after.

I know there's so much work that goes into putting together a delicious Thanksgiving meal. But, after the day's over, the kitchen is cleaned and everything is sealed, I can't help but feel that the food absolutely tastes better after it's been sitting in the refrigerator. And there's actually a reason. According to WHYY.org, there is a science behind leftovers. Food that contains several ingredients usually improve over time after aromas and flavor molecules have had time to settle and interact with each other. So, technically this is actually a fact.

2. Turkey is overrated.

I much prefer ham as the centerpiece of my dish.  Turkey is dry and bland. And, if you think about it, it really only gets eaten on Thanksgiving Day.

3. Mac and Cheese will always be the star of the show.

Now, this one I feel everyone can agree on. This cheesy dish is my favorite, and so much so that I have to know who is cooking it on the day of because it cannot be tampered with.

4. Breakfast on Thanksgiving morning is unnecessary.

Never in my life have I ever had breakfast before Thanksgiving dinner. For me, the smell of the food cooking is enough for me. Yes, it makes me super hungry. But the payoff of waiting is even better.
