Woman charged with assisting fentanyl overdose death at jail

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office continued to connect the dots in the July 24 overdose death of an inmate by arresting a woman suspected of supplying the drug to another inmate.

Karagan McKensie Bryant, 27, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, was charged with conspiracy to sell fentanyl and the use of a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony after investigators linked her to Brian Keith Anderson, who was arrested on Sunday, Aug. 31, with smuggling contraband into the jail and selling or delivering fentanyl after detention deputies found 20-year-old Jarel Walker-Webb unresponsive at his bunk. After efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, Clay County Fire Rescue declared Walker-Webb dead.

Following a search, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement searched the bunks and property of Walker-Webb and Anderson. FDLE found a straw with fentanyl residue. They also noticed a cake of deodorant that appeared “was removed multiple times, in attempts to possibly conceal something underneath the deodorant,” belonging to Anderson.

A further investigation revealed Anderson used his jail electronic tablet, which was password-protected, to communicate with Bryant to transfer funds into his account to purchase narcotics, according to the arrest report.

Bryant blocked CCSO’s phone number from her cellphone. Deputies went to Fitzgerald to find Bryant, but they were only able to locate her mother. The CCSO stated that her mother was able to call Anderson at the Clay County Jail.

Bryant was arrested in Fitzgerald and transported from the Ben Hill County Jail to Clay County on Friday, Oct. 3. Her bond was set at $75,006.

Putnam woman charged with assault during Keystone robbery

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – A Putnam County woman was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 1, and is being held at the Clay County Jail without bond after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office determined she broke into a home on Ridge Trail Road and assaulted at least one occupant.

According to a heavily redacted arrest report, Amy Michele Sellers, 46, of Florahome, was charged with assault and battery during a burglary after deputies found her inside the home after they were dispatched during a burglary.

The homeowner and her grandson said she robbed them, and she assaulted at least one of them.

Sellers is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 28.

Man charged with being nearly 4 times over legal limit in head-on collision

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A driver who lost control of his car in the rain and crashed head-on with another car was arrested and charged on Saturday, Oct. 5, with being nearly four times the legal limit for intoxication.

Justin Michael Orbe, 37, of Middleburg, was charged with reckless driving with property damage and injury, DUI with property damage and injury, felony DUI with a blood alcohol level greater than .15 with a passenger younger than 18, driving too fast for conditions and not wearing his seatbelt after he lost control of his pickup truck on U.S. Highway 17 near the Garber Auto Mall, slid across the median and struck a car head-on driven by a woman.

According to the arrest report prepared by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the likely cause of Orbe losing control was the “worn tread” of his tires.

During the investigation, deputies talked to three witnesses. They also smelled alcohol on Orbe’s breath. After noticing he had “a flushed complexion, bloodshot eyes, watery eyes, lethargy in his physical mannerisms, slurred speech, unsteady staggered gait, and the strong odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage,” he conducted a field sobriety test. After failing the first three parts of the test, he was arrested.

Once at the Clay County Jail, his two blood alcohol level tests resulted in measurements of .299 and .296, which is more than 3.7 times past the legal limit in Florida, which is .08.

The driver of the second car was transported to a local hospital and kept overnight for observation, CCSO said.

Orbe was released after posting a $25,006 bond. He is expected to return to court on Nov. 3.

Lakeside JH girl arrested for writing threat on restroom wall

ORANGE PARK – A 13-year-old Lakeside Junior High girl was arrested after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said she admitted to writing a threat to bomb her school and kill students and staff.

The CCSO stated that a school staff member discovered a lengthy message in a restroom on October 1. She reported it to the School Resource Officer, and after an investigation, the student was identified. A report stated that she admitted to writing the message, and officials determined that she acted alone.

A behavioral threat assessment was conducted and the suspect’s room at home was searched; however, no bomb-making materials were located.

She was charged with making a written or electronic threat to kill, do bodily injury or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism and sending, posting, transmitting or procuring the writing or record, including an electronic record, in any way another person may view it.
