Ruth B. Caruso-Schmandt
Ruth B. Caruso-Schmandt of Orange Park, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pa., passed away on July 9, 2022.
Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Henry W. Caruso and the late Leonard F. Schmandt. Ruth turned 100 years old in January and was very proud of it! She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Lillian Barthel, and her brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Barbara Barthel.
She is survived by her children, Judy Kern Dorsch (Late Philip), Joan Caruso Alessi (Fran), Janet Caruso Klett; Bill Caruso; step-children: Lennie Schmandt (Gail); Mary Toner Fisher (Joe), Judy Cook (Vincent ); 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a dear friend Cynthia Patrick of Middleburg Fl.
Ruth was a longtime member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church where she volunteered in the office and was a member of the choir. She was also a member of the LCWA and Perry Women’s Club for numerous years, all in Pittsburgh, PA. She enjoyed playing bridge once a month with her friends. Until a week ago she still enjoyed going out for lunch and ice cream.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Senior Living of Orange Park and Vitas Hospice for the care they provided for Ruth. Friends will be received on Thursday, July 14 from 10 am until the time of the funeral. Services begin at Noon. The family request that the Interment is private. Simons Funeral Home, Inc., 7720 Perry Hwy, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
