James Samuel Treese
James Samuel Treese 1931-2023
It is with great sadness that the family of James Samuel Treese announces that he passed away on May 24, 2023 at the age of 91. Jim was born in Ansted, West Virginia, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He continued to honor and protect as a Deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for many years. Jim was a great leader and a brilliant businessman. He helped construct Jacksonville General Hospital and became the Executive Director. He retired from the Union Correctional Institute as the Director of Purchasing later in his career. He then moved to Fleming Island where he enjoyed his retirement with Jakie. He frequented the dog track with friends and enjoyed all the FSU football games. Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen (Jakie) Treese; his only son, James Brian Treese (Linda); and 3 daughters, Nancy Chapman (David), Mariana Jones, and Dixie Clendening (Bill). Also left behind are his 4 grandchildren, Stephanie, Emily, Sam, and Jake, and 3 great grandchildren, Avi, Michelle, and Holly. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society.

Micki C. Maurer

Micki C. Maurer, 78, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023 in Orange Park, FL. She was the daughter of the late William J. and Mabel Cowart, born on June 2, 1944 in Elloree, SC.  
  Micki graduated from Herschel V. Jenkins High School in 1962. She and her family moved to Orange Park in 1976 and she worked in real estate and served as EVP of the Clay County Board of Realtors for a number of years. Micki loved life, loved people, loved her family, loved God and southern gospel music, and enjoyed cooking.  
 She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Willie Thomas Jones, Jr. and sister, Janet Bauer.  
  Micki is survived by her husband of 60 years, Larry Maurer; daughter, Donna Miller and son, Don-L Maurer, both of Orange Park; grandson, Joshua Gorsuch, St. Petersburg, and granddaughters, Miranda and Brianna Maurer and Ashley Miller, all of Orange Park; and sister, Elizabeth Carpenter of Islamorada, FL.   
  A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073, (904) 264-1233.
