ORANGE PARK – A 40-year-old man was arrested after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said he admitted he broke the passenger-side window of a car, beat a passenger in the face and pulled him out of the car to retrieve a container with marijuana and “unknown medication” on Nov. 17.
Richard Francis Roberts, of Orange Park, was charged with assault and battery during a robbery after he forcibly took a container from a car parked at a hotel on Wells Road, CCSO said.
According to the arrest report, Roberts was staying at the hotel, and he went to the parking lot and approached a car occupied by two people. A man was sitting in the passenger seat, and his window was partially opened. When he said he didn’t have the container with marijuana, Roberts pulled the window out, beat the man and pulled him out of the car before finding the container, CCSO said.
When deputies arrived, Roberts had blood on his knuckles and shoe, and he admitted to breaking the window and striking the man.
His bond was $25,003.
