MIDDLEBURG – The Clay County Sheriff's Office used a confidential informant to make controlled purchases of drugs from a Jacksonville man, leading to his arrest on Dec. 6 for trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Brian Richard Bevins, 35, was charged with armed trafficking of more than 28 grams of methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl, selling fentanyl, possession of a firearm and ammo by a convicted felon and using his cellphone to facilitate a felony after CCSO said he sold methamphetamine to the informant on Branan Field road on June 25 after setting up the deal on his cellphone.
The agency said another deal occurred on June 24 on Blanding Boulevard.
Bevins was arrested while he was driving near Branan Field Road on Dec. 6 by CCSO, who were serving arrest warrants for the two controlled drug purchases in June. A detective found a meth pipe in Bevins’ pocket during a search. K-9 Koda alerted deputies of the likelihood of illegal narcotics inside Bevins’ car, and they found another meth pipe in a cup holder.
Bevins’ bond was set at $500,018.
