First-year cadets complete mini-boot camp at Middleburg High

MIDDLEBURG – Middleburg High Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps completed its mini-boot camp on Aug. 5. First-year cadets who attended and graduated laid a firm foundation of the basic core principles that they will build on during the upcoming academic year as part of the NJROTC unit. While voluntary, 20 new cadets sacrificed their last full week of summer to attend – getting up early, executing physical fitness training as well as drill basics and learning required cadet knowledge that will put them at an advantage starting the school year. Also sacrificing their summer break, the senior cadet leadership orchestrated, organized, and executed the week of events. Led by the unit Commanding Officer, Cadet Lt. Cmdr. Alexa Avecillas and her staff, the week was a huge success in its mission of indoctrinating the new first-year cadets. The staff demonstrated great leadership skills in the daily interaction with the new cadets foreshadowing what is in store this year for the unit under their leadership.
