GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said the same inmate was attacked twice within 12 hours in what may have been unrelated incidences on Sept. 8.
Robert James Wilson, 35, of Jacksonville, and Ryan Michael Ragsdale, 27, of Middleburg, were each charged with battery in jail after separate investigations revealed an inmate was punched and “slammed” to the floor.
According to two arrest reports, it started at 5:21 a.m. when Wilson walked up behind the victim while he was putting his food away at his bunk when Wilson approached him and started punching him in the face. CCSO said Wilson said he was “aggravated” with the victim due to his “disrespectful mouth.”
Wilson’s bond was set at $5,003.
Then at 5:10 p.m., CCSO said Ragsdale was sitting by his bunk eating when the same inmate tried to put items away. Ragsdale stood up, threw him on the floor and stood over him.
Investigators reviewed surveillance and saw the inmate didn’t bump Ragsdale.
Ragsdale was in jail after he was arrested on Aug. 14 after being caught as a convicted felon with a pair of brass knuckles in a daycare center.
He will remain in the Clay County Jail without bond.
