ORANGE PARK – St. Johns Country Day School’s 2024 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Art Show is now on display at the Nichols Family Art Gallery at the school’s Performing Arts Center.

This is the Gallery’s first since its official opening in September 2023. It includes student art that received either a Silver Key or Honorable Mention in the Northeast Florida regional Scholastic Art Awards competition.

Gold Key works are on display in Jacksonville at The Galleries at Main Library.

Forty-one St. Johns students were honored after winning 84 awards. Judges across Northeast Florida reviewed 3,476 entries from 16 visual art categories. More than 400 regional Gold Keys were awarded out of these, with St. Johns earning 21.

The school’s artists were also awarded 24 Silver Keys and 39 Honorable Mentions.

“We are always blown away by the quality of our students’ art, and this year is no exception,” said Visual Arts Department Chair Anna Reynolds. “We are particularly proud to hold 21 of the 400 regional Gold Keys awarded, a testament to the hard work and talent of our student artists.”

This year’s award winners include Haleema Ali,Xavier Baez, Frances Bailey, Caden Brown. Regan Butler, Carys Cain, Gracie Castleman. Dominique Clark, Ainsley Costarakis, Westin Cowherd, Rowan Fix, Anna Galnor, Kelsey Gregson, Hana Hutsell, Cayden Ingram, Mia Johnson, Isa Johnson, Alexandra Kuczkowski, Roxy Mathews, Vedant Mathur, Brice McClellan, Sophia McClellan, Grace McNulty, Grayson Moody, Caris Morgan, Matilda Morris, Zach Navarro, Gabriela Oceguera, Kate Pappas, Luke Peterson, Izzy Quickstad, Ishta Ramroop, Reyden Rivera, Brennan Rowzee, Emma Smith, Audrey Steckler, Emily Steckler, Celine Torkzad, Alexandria Valencia, Reagan Wagstaff and Brynn White.

Students were also honored by the Northeast Florida Scholastic Affiliate at an Awards Ceremony at the Florida Theatre.

In judging submissions, jurors look for works that exemplify the Awards’ core values: originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.

Since 1923, the Scholastic Awards have recognized some of America’s most celebrated artists and writers while they were teenagers, including Tschabalala Self, Stephen King, Kay WalkingStick, Charles White, Joyce Carol Oates and Andy Warhol.
