What can we do to make a difference in our communities?
It is a natural question to ask: In general, is your neighbor someone who lives next door to you or down the street from you?
But in Mark 12:31, it tells us you shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other second commandment greater than these. We should show love to everyone.
Do you greet your neighbor with a good morning?
Do you smile or wave your hand at your neighbor?
Do you speak to your neighbor?
Do you watch out for your neighbor’s house?
Do you know your neighbor’s name?
Growing up in a small community in Penney Farms years ago, everybody knew everybody, and people helped one another. When someone was sick or needed help, I remember my grandmother and other people in the community coming together to help their neighbor with food, cooking, cleaning their house or whatever they needed. Love is action toward your neighbor, and that would make all the difference in the world.
This reminds me of the man beside the road who was left for dead.
Luke 10:30-37 tells us we cannot be like the priest and the Levite to look down on someone in need and pass them by,
But in Luke 10:33-34, a certain Samaritan had compassion for him and bound up his wounds, took him to an inn and took care of him.
We need to be the Good Samaritan in our community, and God wants to heal you; His love is everlasting.
