MIDDLEBURG – Cars arrived at the Parsonage Street lot at First Baptist Middleburg hours before the first of 1,000 boxes filled with enough food for a Thanksgiving feast was given away as part of the church’s Feeding the 5,000 program last Saturday. Each box was filled with a can of cranberry sauce, two cans of green beans, instant mashed potatoes, a box to make stuffing, a whole pie and a frozen turkey, and they were happily distributed to anyone in need. Each box had enough food to feed five people, and anyone with a larger family got a second or third box. One woman said she probably wouldn’t have put a Thanksgiving dinner on the table without the church. “I just lost my job and have four children,” she said. “This makes a difference.” Boxes were loaded into trunks and back seats, and everyone was greeted with a smile and wave. The church has been giving away food boxes for seven years to meet the nutritional and spiritual needs of the community.
