Take first step toward Majors at Pitch, Hit and Throw
MIDDLEBURG – A year ago, more than 70 boys and girls participated in Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit and Run June 15 at Paul C. Armstrong Park from 8 a.m. to noon.
Boys and girls, 7-14, can bring their best baseball and softball skills, hoping to eventually advance to Major League Baseball's World Series finals.
Boys will get five throws at a “designated” Strike Zone, 17 inches-by-30 inches, from 45 feet, while girls in the softball division will pitch from 35 feet. In the hitting competition, it’s recommended they bring their own bats and helmets. Contestants will get five swings from a tee, and a hit is measured where the ball lands, not where it stops rolling. A missed swing counts as an attempt. A running or walking start is not permitted.
The running competition includes the best of two 90-foot sprints from a runner’s stance.
