ORANGE PARK — In partnership with Jax Beach Aviation, St. Johns River State College will launch a fast-track pilot program at the Jacksonville Executive at Craig Airport this fall to address the national pilot shortage.
The Professional Aeronautics Certificate is a 21-month accelerated program accredited by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and designed for career-focused students seeking a direct pathway to a career in professional aviation. The program is open to new and returning students, with additional enrollment opportunities for high school juniors and seniors through dual enrollment.
The PAC program offers a weekly classroom course at SJR State’s Orange Park campus with flight training at Jax Beach Aviation. FAA certifications include private pilot, instrument rating, commercial pilot and flight instructor certifications (airplane). A typical week for a student will consist of 20 hours of training encompassing classroom study, flight training and after-class assignments.
Students will experience industry-leading training equipment, including the Cirrus SR20 Technologically Advanced Aircraft and simulation via Advanced Aviation Training Devices with Boeing’s ForeFlight Electronic Flight Bag. Graduates can earn the required certificates and skills to build hours as flight instructors or in other commercial operations.
Christopher Johnson, PAC program architect and former Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University professor, will host online information sessions on June 24 and July 1. To register, visit, jaxbeachaviation.com/sjr-state-college-flight-program/.
Classes begin in August. Admission requirements apply. Seating is limited.
