CHICAGO (May 31, 2024) – St. Johns Country Day School girls soccer standout Sydney Schmidt, a sophomore, has returned from a trip to Turkey and has been selected to stay with the team as the U.S. Under-16 Womens Youth National Team heads to Aschaffenbrug, Germany for a June 3-12 training session with games to be played June 8 and 11 at Stadion am Schonbusch, 25 miles southeast of Frankfurt

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2008, are age-eligible for this U-16 WYNT cycle. For this training camp, Toledo selected all 2008 birth year players. All players in the U-16 WYNT pool are age-eligible for this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, set for October/November in the Dominican Republic.
Last month, the U-16 WYNT, with Schmidt listed as a defender, won an eight-team UEFA Friendship Tournament in Riva, Turkey with several strong performances, topping its group of Turkey, Vietnam and Botswana before defeating Paraguay in penalty kicks in the championship match. Ten players return from that tournament-winning squad.
