DOCTORS INLET – The decision by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office to move its National Night Out event to October proved beneficial as milder temperatures attracted hundreds of families at 13 different locations last Tuesday. The national initiative is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships. It’s routinely held on the first Tuesday of August, but the sheriff’s office moved its program to October to avoid the excessive summer heat. The Green Cove Springs Police Department moved its event into the Thomas Hogan Gym in August. Families met deputies and fire rescue members at several locations, including Doctors Inlet Reserve. Children were allowed to explore squad cars and fire trucks. To schedule an appearance for next year’s event, visit claysheriff.com.
