JACKSONVILLE - With a push on stroke training versus overall speed, newly installed Eagle Harbor Screaming Eagles head swim coach Sondra Santana, used her tactical decision to snag a closely-contested first-team championship in the First Coast Swim League with Pace Island and Oakleaf’s Orcas running a 1-2-3 team sweep at University of North Florida’s pool.

“We all know Fleming Island swimming has been a haven of speed and when I was given this job, plus the Fleming Island High School head coaching job, I wanted to concentrate on stroke techniques in all aspects to get maximum team points,” said Santana, who was assistant coach to long-time coach Jordan Bright, now at Tocoi Creek High School. “I’m proud of our athletes who swam great against challenges from the other teams.”

Eagle Harbor totaled 2598.5 points to outlast Pace Island’s runner-up total of 2414.0 and Oakleaf’s 2097 points. Eagle Landing finished sixth in the seven-team event.

In the men's only scoring, Eagle Harbor won with 1185.5 points to Pace’s 1142 and Oakleaf’s 944 with Eagle Landing sixth at 534.

In the girls-only scoring, Eagle Harbor won with 1413 points with Pace second at 1272 and Oakleaf third at 1153 and Eagle Landing fourth at 541.

In one of the more dominating performances of the day, Eagle Landing’s Brylee Wood punched in for 60 team points with wins in the 100 IM, 50 fly and 50 free plus a third in the 200 medley relay.

Top point getters for Eagle Harbor were Brooke Reynolds, 15, who put up 40 team points off gold in the 100 individual medley and the 50 free and Karyssa Booth, 13, who scored 36 team points with a win in the 50 backstroke and seconds in the 100 individual medley and 200 yard medley relay. Booth also earned a second in the mixed 200-yard free relay. Also for the Eagle Harbor girls, nine-year-old Alyssa Schwanke scored 38 points with wins in the 50 fly and 100 free relay and silver in the 50 free and 100 medley relay. Audrey Hall, 14, scored 36 points with silver medals in the 50 fly and 50 free plus two relay silvers, and Keira Fetzner, 14, scored 35 team points with a gold in the 100 free and a fourth in the 50 breast.

For the Eagle Harbor boys, 10-year-old Padric Conroy punched in for 39 team points with a gold in the mixed 100 medley relay, a second in the 50 breast, a third in the 50 fly and a 12th-place finish in the 50 free.

With Conroy, Matthew Harvey, 14, scored 38 team points off gold in the 100 individual medley and silver in the 50 fly and two golds in relays.

Callen Melquist, 9, scored 36 points for Eagle Harbor with wins in the 50 fly and 100 free and a third in the 50 breaststroke.

Pace Island’s girls were paced (LOL) by sisters Addison and Alexandra Kuczkowski who scored 74 points combined; 38 to Addison off gold in the the 50 breast and 100 medley relay and silver in 100 free relay and 50 backstroke while Alexandra scored 36 team points off a gold in the 50 breast, 200 medley relay and 200 free relay and third in the 100 free.

Berkley Morgan, 12, added 35 team points with a win in the 50 breast and fourth in the 50 fly plus a relay silver and bronze.

For the Pace boys six-year-old phenom, Elliot Poole punched his clock for 40 team points with an astounding fourth in 25 fly, fifth in 25 back, eighth in 25 free and gold in 100 free relay.

Luke Frisbee, 16, scored 34 for Pace with a second in the 50 fly and a third in the 100 free plus a gold in 200 free relay and silver in mixed 200 medley relay.

Alex Huggins, 10, scored 33 points for Pace with silvers in 50 fly, mixed 100 free relay, 100 free relay and a fourth in the 50 free.

For Oakleaf, Aiden Berndt, 14, scored 42 team points with fourths in the 50 back and 50 fly and a seventh in the 50 free.

For the Oakleaf girls, Brylee Wood, 13, Cassidy Cervantes, 17, scored 41 points with a third in the 100 IM, a sixth in 50 back and a seventh in 50 fly.

Eagle Landing’s top scorers were Hannah Bennett, 14, with 41 points and Samuel Bredeson, 10, with 40 points.
