ORANGE PARK – With nearly 200 children screaming, nobody could stay asleep for long. Not even Santa Claus. The annual event at the Orange Park Mall on Saturday was a festive way to start the Christmas season. Santa sat slumped in a chair, still sleeping from his year-long nap after delivering toys last year. Children, most in their pajamas, started screaming for him to wake up. The sound echoed throughout the 953,000-square-foot mall. Once he awakened, he and Mrs. Claus strolled to Center Court, where they posed for photos. Children were also able to leave a holiday message, ride on ponies, drink free hot cocoa and have their faces painted.
