GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Rev. George L. Reed Jr. was recently appointed the new Pastor at Mt. Zion AME Church.

Reed is from Jacksonville, and he is the eldest son of State Presider Dr. Loranda P. Denson and Reverend George Reed, Sr. He experienced a spiritual awakening and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost in Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ on Dec. 14, 2003. Since then, Reed has continued to serve God, people and the community.

Reed received his ministerial license in 2005 and served as youth pastor until 2008, when he was ordained an Elder. He is anointed to deliver a precise interpretation of the Scripture, and this is evident in his writing, homilies, lectures and pastoral counseling.

Since accepting his calling into Kingdom Ministry, Reverend Reed has served as the keynote jubilation speaker for national organizational luncheons, community empowerment summits, youth retreats, conferences and worship services.

Additionally, Reed has served in numerous capacities under the auspices of his grandfather, Presiding Elder Lorenzo Monroe and subsequent leaders, namely as Vice-President of the National Board of Trustees, District Youth Mentor and District Youth Activities Coordinator.

Reed is skilled in parliamentary procedure, biblical research, and leadership. He is bi-vocational, so in addition to serving as Pastor he is employed in the corporate sector with more than 30 years of experience in course development, training, and customer service management. Reed’s mantra is simple: “I’m committed to serve and called to lead.”

Reed was educated in the Duval County Public School System, and he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Edward H. White High. He earned a Bachelor of Theology and Christian Counseling from Saint Thomas Christian University, where he graduated Valedictorian; a Bachelor of Business Administration and Organizational Management from Edward Waters University in 2019; and he is pursuing a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary.

Reed enjoys date nights with his wife, mmyla Harris-Reed, and rooting for the Miami Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars when he isn’t serving in ministry.
