IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER

Town of Orange Park Bacteriological Monitoring Public Notice

 What Happened?

Our water system did not meet the requirements of a drinking water rule. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we are doing to correct this situation.

The Town of Orange Park is required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. For community water systems such as ours, monthly monitoring is required for Total Coliform. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not your drinking water meets health standards. During the March 2022 compliance period, one of our 13 monthly distribution samples tested positive for total Coliform bacteria. All repeat samples were satisfactory, however, due to a scheduling error we did not test for Total Coliform in the ground water wells within 24 hours of the distribution test, and therefore cannot be sure of the quality of your drinking water at that time. All previous and subsequent groundwater well samples were negative and in compliance.

What should I do?

Coliforms are bacteria that are naturally present in the environment and are used as an indicator that other, potentially harmful, bacteria may be present. Microbes can cause short-term effects, such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other systems. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.

Any customers who are concerned about their exposure to Coliforms can choose alternative sources of water for ingestion.

What does this mean?

This is not an immediate risk. IF it had been, you would have been notified immediately.

What is being done?

We have revised our sampling schedule to include sampling of our ground water wells in conjunction with the sampling of our distribution samples. This change is effective immediately for the Town.
