GCSPD track down man after convience store stabbing

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Deputies and detectives with the Green Cove Springs Police Department poured through evidence and conducted countless interviews that led to the arrest of a man who was accused of stabling a conveince store clerk during a robbery on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Stacey Devon Burney, 49, of Green Cove Springs, was arrested Monday and charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery with bodily harm and grand larceny after a clerk was stabbed in the hand while trying to prevent the unprovoked attack at the Green Cove Food Store at 201 North Orange Ave.
The robbery and attack were recorded by video surveillance, but it took a lot of legwork to track down Burney, who was out on bond following his arrest of possession of crack cocaine last year.
His bond was revoked for the drug charge, and his bond for the attack was set at $225,009. Burney’s next court appearance is set for March 6.

Woman killed while helping break up domestic dispute

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – A couple were brutally stabbed on Feb. 2 when they tried to protect a woman who was being attacked by her boyfriend.
The woman was stabbed multiple times and died, while the man was stabbed in the back and the girlfriend was assaulted, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
William Frederick Burroughs, 32, of Keystone Heights, was charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery following the attack on Auburn Avenue on Thursday night.
The sheriff’s office was called because the girlfriend said Burroughs was punching her in the face. When deputies arrived, they found three victims, including Jessica Horn, who died at HCS North Florida Starke. A man was treated and released for a superficial stab wound to his back.
Burroughs will remain in the Clay County Jail without bond until his next hearing on March 13.

Traffic stop leads to trafficking arrest for cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy recognized a woman with a suspended license driving a car from a parking lot off Henley Road, and during the process of the traffic stop he uncovered cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl and marijuana.
Alyssa Brooke Avery, 31, of Green Cove Springs, was charged on Jan. 30 with trafficking methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine and fentanyl, possession of marijuana, Lortab, Alprazolam and drug paraphernalia, as well as driving with a suspended license after K-9 Dante alerted deputies of the likely presence of illegal drugs during the stop.
The drugs were found in a metal box wedged between the driver’s seat and center console.
According to the arrest report, the deputy saw Avery get out of her car and enter a business at the corner of Henley and Sandridge roads. She was pulled over when she drove away from the business.
According to the National and Florida crime information center, Avery’s license had been suspended 19 times 2014.
Her bond was set at $508,018 and her next court appearance is schedule for Feb. 27.

CCSO: Man arrested for firing gun during road rage incident

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A retired man from Fleming Island was arrested on Nov. 2 after a couple driving on County Road 315 said he threw a soda can at their car and fired four rounds in the air as he sped past them.
George William Pyatt, 55, was charged with discharging a firearm from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of people after the victims gave deputies his license tag number. Deputies said when Pyatt returned home, they were waiting on him.
According to the arrest report, Pyatt admitted to participating in a road rage incident because the couple was driving too slow. Pyatt also told deputies the boyfriend waved a handgun at him as he passed, according to the report.
Pyatt later admitted the boyfriend could have been making an obscene gesture when he retaliated.
CCSO said neither of the victims owned a gun.
Pyatt’s bond was set at $75,003.

Putnam woman charged with trying to run car off road

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A woman who a deputy with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office watched chasing another driver at high speeds on U.S. Highway 17 was arrested on Feb. 4.
Shenerita Monique Rolle, 32, of Satsuma, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a woman called 911 and said two cars were chasing her and trying to run her off the road.
A deputy saw the chase, including one of the chasing cars make “an abrupt swerve at the victim’s vehicle” to force the victim to slam on her brakes.
Rolle was stopped and arrested. The second car made a u-turn and sped away toward Palatka.

Orange Park man jailed following Oakleaf carjacking

OAKLEAF – A man was arrested shortly after he carjacked a man who was sitting at a stop sign at Deerfield Pointe Drive and Cheswick Oak Avenue on Feb. 6.
Isaiah Immanuel Golson, 24, of Orange Park, was charged with carjacking and burglary after a driver said he was forced from his car.
Once Golson drove away, the victim flagged down an off duty Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office deputy, who was able to alert law enforcement details of the car which led to Golson’s capture, according to the arrest report.
Golson’s bond was set at $55,006.
