Middleburg man jailed for DUI, fighting with sheriff’s office deputies

ORANGE PARK – A man who a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy said was driving erratically and for striking the center median, was charged on Thursday, Aug. 6, with fighting with deputies, driving under the influence and criminal mischief.

According to a three-page arrest report, Austin Dwayne Wilson, 31, of Middleburg, was charged with three counts each of resisting arrest with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer, criminal mischief and DUI after he was observed swerving through traffic on Blanding Boulevard at 11:42 p.m. on Aug. 5. He was stopped after he struck the inside concrete median when over-corrected after nearly striking another car in traffic.

During the traffic stop, the deputy said he smelled alcohol and appeared to be intoxicated. The deputy said Wilson got within inches of his face because he was agitated by how long the stop was taking. After Wilson refused to back away, the deputy used his hand to push Wilson back.

According to the arrest report, that’s when Wilson swatted the deputy’s hand away and threatened to fight him.

Two other deputies assisted in the arrest. One used his stun gun to subdue Wilson so he could be handcuffed. As Wilson was being placed inside the patrol car, he kicked the second deputy in the leg and a third in the hand.

His bond was set at $101,022.
