Orange Park woman held without bond following armed robbery

MIDDLEBURG – A 20-year-old woman and a juvenile boy were arrested on Thursday, June 4, after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said they were involved in an armed robbery.

According to a heavily redacted arrest report, Amara Rose Krug, of Orange Park, who was charged with armed robbery and criminal mischief, was found with a backpack, three cellphones, two ski masks, a gold chain belonging to the victim and a handgun.

While Krug was being detained, CCSO said she “intentionally used the metal portion of the handcuffs she was wearing to carve initials into the wall, causing damage to the wall’s surface,” which led to the criminal mischief charge.

Krug was awaiting trial after being charged on April 2 for possession of marijuana. On Monday, June 9, CCSO added a possession of cannabis charge.

The boy was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Jacksonville, while Krug was booked into the Clay County Jail without bond.

Man charged with BUI on Boater Skip Day for doing donuts in no wake zone

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A Jacksonville man was charged with boating while intoxicated at the Knights Boat Ramp on Boater Skip Day, Friday, June 5, after he ignored orders by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office to come to shore after he was caught doing donuts with his jet ski in a no wake zone.

Brett Michael Wilson, 33, was charged with resisting arrest, boating while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a pair of alcohol breath tests and reckless operation of a vessel, after he was seen falling off his jet ski before he finally came ashore. CCSO and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Division of Law Enforcement also said Wilson attempted to flee on the St. Johns River.

According to one of two arrest reports, Wilson became combative when an officer with the FWC asked Wilson to take two field sobriety tests. Wilson refused.

Wilson’s bond was set at $20,008.

Keystone Heights man awaiting trial, faces new dog fighting charges

JACKSONVILLE – A Keystone Heights man who was awaiting a trial for possessing testosterone and a weapon by a convicted felon, was one of three men who were indicted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida for dog fighting.

Anthony Keith Crosby Jr., 42, and Drew Geer, 42, of Lake Butler, face a maximum of 30 years in federal prison if convicted, while Leroy Halbert, 53, of Lake Butler, faces a maximum of 15 years in prison if convicted.

All three were charged with three counts of possession of dogs for dog fighting ventures. Geer and Crosby were charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe made the announcement.

Geer was arrested on May 20 and has been detained pending trial, which is currently scheduled for July 2026. Halbert and Crosby were arrested on May 29.

According to the indictments, on Dec. 10, 2025, Geer, Crosby and Halbert each possessed at least three dogs that were used in dog fighting ventures. In addition, on that same date, Geer and Crosby each possessed firearms knowing that they were convicted felons.

An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.

This case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Office of Inspector General, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and the Union County Sheriff’s Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Cannizzaro.
