MIDDLEBURG – A 28-year-old man from Orange Park was killed a few hours before midnight on New Year’s Eve when the Florida Highway Patrol said another man sped through a red light and slammed into the driver’s door.
Christian Whitaker died shortly after being taken to the hospital, FHP said.
According to the accident report, Whitaker had a green light and he was pulling from County Road 220 West north onto State Road 21 when a man driving a Lincoln Navigator raced through a red light.
Both vehicles came to rest in the middle of the intersection. Investigators returned on Jan. 2 to the scene to map out the site and search for more clues.
FHP doesn’t reveal the identities of people involved in crashes, but Whitaker’s identity was posted on social media.
Charges may be pending.
