CREEKSIDE - In a war of sorts at the line of scrimmage, the Creekside High Knights football team took a page out of the Oakleaf High playbook and used a strong offensive line presence to punch out a 38-20 district win Friday night at Creekside.
Both teams answered the first call on offense with Creekside rumbling 60 yards to pound in from three yards out to go ahead 7-0, but Oakleaf responded with a Chris Foy II 30-yard touchdown romp to tie the game.
From there, Creekside maintained the edge up front to build a 28-7 lead into the third quarter behind three interceptions on Oakleaf quarterback Brandon Wallace, Jr., and time-consuming scoring drives.
Creekside scored off a 50-yard run, then scooped up an Oakleaf fumble that led to another long scoring drive; a 12-yard scamper, then one from 16 yards to go up 28-7.
After negotiating a fumbled punt snap at their own five, Oakleaf's defense stopped Creekside and gave Wallace field position for a Foy eight-yard score.
A Creekside field goal got negated with a Wallace to Michael Connor 40-yard toss to the four-yard line where Wallace finished the task to put the score at 31-20 with time on the clock.
Creekside ate more clock to go up 38-20 with an insurance score.
The Oakleaf schedule gets no rest with undefeated Bradford and unbeaten Buchholz coming to Oakleaf with Madison County on the road a week before Bartram Trail.
