MIDDLEBURG – A man hosting a party on Feb. 11 wound up going to jail when Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies determined as many as three dozen underaged guests were drinking alcohol.
Steven Howard Freytag, 51, of Middleburg, was charged with allowing minors to consume alcohol at an open house party after deputies responded to noise complaints at the 2100 block of Spinnaker Court around 2 a.m. When they arrived, they saw several young guests throwing bottles of alcohol into an adjacent wooded area. Deputies counted as many as 20 guests, and most of them appeared to be younger than 21.
Deputies found several cans of twisted tea, cans of alcohol and red Solo cups throughout the house. The underaged participants were released to the custody of their parents and guardians.
Freytag `pleaded no contest at his bond hearing on Feb. 12, and the case was closed after Circuit Judge Gary L. Wilkinson fined him $388 in fees and gave him credit for spending two days in jail.
