JACKSONVILLE - The Griffin siblings; Tyler and Olivia, took to getting top billing at the family kitchen table with both earning top finishes for the Keystone Heights High School cross country teams who competed Monday at their district 3-2A championships at Bishop Kenny High School.
In the boy's race, Tyler Griffin, a senior, was the top finisher for the Indians with an 18-minute, 10-second split to finish 22nd overall and put the Indians boys team in seventh place overall. The seventh place gives the Indians boys a second race as the top eight at districts advance to the region 1-2A championship race next week in Lake City on Thurs., Nov. 9.
For the boy's race, won by Bolles' Christopher Joost in 15:54 with teammate William Morales second in 16:09 to dominate the team's scores with a 21 to runner-up Bishop Kenny's 42 points. Keystone Heights finished with 208 points with Griffin followed by James Thomas at 25th in 18:22, Hunter Sheppard in 48th in 20:09, Anthony Peak in 53rd in 20:29 and Bryce Huntley in 60th in 20:55.
For the girls, Olivia Griffin, a freshman, finished 40th in 22:20 to also fuel a seventh-place team finish for the Lady Indians and advancement to the region meet.
Bolles, the team runner-up to Bishop Kenny 27-34, was led by Sofie Stam's astounding winning 18:51.06 split ahead of teammate Estella Bruneau's 19:09.17 then followed by three Bishop Kenny runners. Bishop Kenny had their top five in the top 10 with Bolles' fifth finisher in at 16th the difference in the team scores.
The Keystone Heights girls finishers were Cali Chamberlain in 42nd in 24:26.31, Melody Tyre in 48th in 25:19.11, Brook Graudons in 63rd in 27:15.23 and Madilyn Miller in 65th in 27:46.33.
