CLAY COUNTY — Work on the widening of County Road 220 continues to be progressing swiftly and on schedule for an early completion, according to a county update on April 14.

As a fresh reminder, the county began the project back in December 2024, which included two phases. Phase 1 will widen the road to four lanes from Hollars Place to west of Henley Road, ending at Chief Ridaught Trail. Phase 2 includes further widening from east of Chief Ridaught Trail to Knight Boxx Road, the completion of a new four-lane bridge over Little Black Creek and signal updates at Knight Boxx Road and Blanding Boulevard to ease traffic.

As of now, the traffic signal is 90% complete, while final drainage and curb and gutter installation is continuing on the westbound lanes of CR 220 and Joe Johns Road to Henley Road. For the new bridge, the deck and railings are completed, and slab work continues.

Although the original completion date was projected to be later this year, the county said that both projects are looking to be done by the end of summer.

Additionally, drivers should anticipate nighttime lane closures with flaggers from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning on April 26 at the Henley Road and CR 220 intersection for nighttime paving operations. This will take approximately seven days to complete.

The county urged that motorists should continue to practice safe and courteous driving in construction zones.
