But if you're still looking for a home for your recyclable items, a few individuals and businesses have taken matters into their own hands. Like Cardboard Cowboys, Clay County's first private curbside cardboard recycling service.
Starting at $15, residents have access to a one-time or weekly service of any amount of corrugated cardboard without leaving their home — an easy way of reducing clutter, saving time, and help keeping recyclable materials out of the trash.
The business was started by Erika, a busy mom of three, who recognized the practical pickup and transportation challenges. Residents can call or text (904) 502-0620 to schedule a pickup, according to their website.
Also, resident Dave Barczak offers free pickups every Saturday in Orange Park, Fleming Island, Middleburg and Green Cove Springs.
Residents can add aluminum cans, aluminum foil and containers, and magnetic cans to a bin or bag , place it curbside and text (904) 631-0265 for pickup.
Barczak also accepts scrap metal, but residents must make prior arrangements for larger items. The waste streams also require sorting, so he asks that you do what you can to separate them.
His grassroots effort, with a reliable pickup truck and his dog Paisley, began in November 2024 as a responsible alternative to adding more waste to your own receptacle.
It has since branched out throuhgout Northeast Clay County.
