How Can a Good God Allow Suffering?

Have you ever been struggling with your faith amidst challenging circumstances, wondering how a good God could allow suffering? It's a tough question that tugs at our hearts. As always, we find the answers in God’s Word.
In John 16:33, Jesus acknowledges that life brings troubles: "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." He's saying that suffering is part of our journey, but through Him, we can find peace. His victory over the world gives us hope even in tough times.
Now, you might wonder why God didn't make a world without suffering. He did, but our choices brought suffering. God gave us the freedom to choose, even if it means we sometimes make wrong choices that lead to pain.
Consider Joni Eareckson Tada's story. Despite being paralyzed for 45 years, she said, “I would rather be in this wheelchair, knowing God, than on my feet without Him.” How powerful is that? Her words remind us that God's presence in suffering can bring unexpected blessings – things like strength, compassion, and a deeper connection with Him.
Psalm 34:18 tells us, "The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." This verse assures us that God is with us in our toughest moments. He doesn't abandon us when we suffer; instead, He becomes our refuge and our strength.
While the question of why a good God would allow suffering might seem like an unsolvable puzzle, faith helps us see that God cares about our pain. He's right there with us, offering comfort and peace.
Through Jesus' victory, we find hope and certainty that, one day, all suffering will end, and God's goodness will shine brighter than ever. So, even in the toughest times, we trust in His goodness and the promise of a better tomorrow.
