GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The public is invited to the unveiling of the city’s police department building to honor former Chief Derek Asdot on Jan. 5 at 10 a.m.

The police department building will be renamed in Asdot’s name.

Former and current members of the city council, as well as members of the Green Cove Springs Police Department, will participate to honor their chief who died of COVID-19 in 2021.

Asdot was a U.S. Army veteran who joined GCSPD in 2002. Asdot ascended through the ranks and became Chief of Police in 2017. The Chief was a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Southern Police Institute. He is the only city police officer to die in the line of duty.
